Rain or shine: Protect your skin with an SPF!

It doesn’t matter what season it is: if you don’t want to look like an old hag, then you need to protect your skin!

Exercise decreases antioxidant levels up to 40%! Since antioxidants are crucial to protecting you against sun-damage, it is important that you wear sun-block year round while also focusing on increasing your antioxidants through the foods that you decide to consume.

My best tips:

  • 1) use a broad spectrum sunscreen before leaving your house and reapply it every 2 hours if you plan on being outdoors. My favorite and least expensive sun-protecting and skin-enhancing facial product is Aveeno’s “positively radiant” tinted moisturizer with SPF 30.
  • 2) Increase your consumption of antioxidant-rich superfoods! Here is a list of my favorites:

Proteins

  1. lean red meat (93% lean, top round, sirloin)
  2. salmon
  3. omega-3 eggs
  4. low-fat, plain yogurt (lactose-free if possible)
  5. protein supplement (milk protein isolates, whey protein isolates, or vegan protein sources

Fruits & Vegetables

  1. spinach
  2. tomatoes
  3. coniferous vegetables (broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower)
  4. mixed berries
  5. oranges

Other Carbohydrates

  1. mixed beans
  2. quinoa
  3. whole oats

Good Fats

  1. mixed nuts
  2. avacados
  3. extra virgin olive oil
  4. fish oil
  5. flax seeds (ground)

Drinks/Other

  1. green tea
  2. liquid exercise drinks (quickly digested carbohydrates and protein)
  3. greens+ (vegetable concentrate supplement)

You don’t need a tan to glow! Just keep up with your super-foods and make sure you apply your sunscreen! Stay healthy, stay beautiful, and stay radiant!
